Beaufort West is the birthplace of the pioneer heart surgeon Professor Chris Barnard. The Beaufort West Museum comprises of three buildings and houses a large collection of memorabilia of this pioneer heart surgeon, including a replica of the operating theatre where first heart transplant was performed as well as Professor Barnard's childhood home

There are various trails of varying lengths close to Beaufort West. The longest and most noteworthy are to be found on the farm Rooiheuwel, which is owned and operated by Flip & Marge Vivier.
There are numerous premier hunting venues in the area. Rietfontein Game Farm is one of these and it caters for ethical hunters, with a preference for bow hunting, however regular rifle hunter are also accommodated. A large variety of semi arid species can be hunted in the area.
